National Veterinary Stockpile Logistics Exercise

 

The Alabama Department of Agriculture & Industries (ADAI) is pleased to host the National Veterinary Stockpile (NVS) Logistics Exercise on April 28, 2010. The exercise is co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service-Veterinary Services (USDA APHIS-VS), NVS, and the Southern Agriculture & Animal Disaster Response Alliance (SAADRA).

 

In addition to participants from ADAI and USDA, this exercise will be observed and evaluated by representatives from the Alabama Dept. of Homeland Security, Alabama Emergency Management Agency, Alabama Dept. of Conservation & Natural Resources, ALFA Farmers Federation, Alabama Dept. of Public Health, UAB School of Public Health, Alabama Cooperative Extension Service, Auburn University, US Dept. of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation, University of Georgia, Kentucky Dept. of Agriculture, Clemson University, South Carolina Forestry Commission, and Tennessee Dept. of Agriculture.

 
 




 

The purpose of this exercise is to:
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of Alabama's Agriculture Logistics Management Plan

  • Test Alabama's abilities to acquire, receive, process, and distribute NVS countermeasures

  • Clarify roles and responsibilities of Agriculture Response Personnel

  • Identify resource gaps before large-scale, catastrophic animal disease outbreaks occur
