Foreign Animal Disease Response Course

The
Homeland Security/Emergency Preparedness Section
will be hosting a
Train-the-Trainer Foreign Animal Disease Response Course
on the following date:

July 7, 2010 at The University of Alabama Birmingham

This course targets traditional first responders, veterinarians, public health professionals and emergency managers and addresses their roles in a Foreign Animal Disease Outbreak in Alabama.

Additional Information

This intensive 8 hour course is designed to not just train the individual participant, but also provide information, materials and support necessary to return to their discipline and disseminate information to coworkers or provide additional training opportunities.

Scope: This course is directed to the traditional First Responder, law enforcement, fire, and EMS but has application to all Emergency Responders. This includes but is not limited to veterinarian services, public works, community volunteers, and emergency management. The course also focuses on increasing the understanding of the roles and responsibilities of state and federal animal health officials in response to a foreign animal disease outbreak.

Modules: The course is divided into modules centered on an overall scenario involving a foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreak. These modules include an introduction to agroterrorism, quarantine, PPE, euthanasia & disposal, and cleaning & disinfecting.  All modules are based on current DHS and USDA guidelines and reviewed regularly for accuracy.
